Project
Red Lake Nation Home Electrification Project
Tynergy exists to address the energy crisis in the U.S. and beyond. Our proven sodium-ion batteries, combined with our team’s expertise in sourcing technology, distribution and operations, make us uniquely positioned to address this global need.
Context
The problem
-
Grid instability
Many tribal communities, including those within the Red Lake Nation, face increasing challenges from aging electrical infrastructure, regional grid instability, severe weather events, and disruptions caused by climate change and natural disasters.
-
Electricity availability
The US Department of Energy (DOE) states that the energy use of AI and data centres will grow two to three times by 2028, while supply shortages today cause instability and sharp price increases.
-
Peak demand shortages and the need for virtual power plants
Gaps between supply and demand show most at peak times. The DOE forecasts a need for an additional 130 GW of virtual power plant storage by 2030.
-
Lithium-ion is not the answer
Lithium-ion is the default technology today, but it has major flaws that restrict its ability to meet these needs at scale.
Approach
The solution: sustainable energy and advanced sodium‑ion energy storage
-
Solar energy
Solar energy is abundant and sustainable, unlike fossil fuels, which are finite and add to greenhouse gases.
-
Extended lifecycle, more reliability
Minimal degradation, with ten times more lifecycles than lithium, creates far higher value.
-
Lower cost per kWh
More affordable to produce, deploy and scale.
-
Sustainable and abundant
Sodium is 1,000 times more abundant than lithium. No rare earth or conflict minerals.
-
Safer by design
Non-flammable, thermally stable chemistry.
Plan
The plan
100 homes
100 homes will have 5 kW of solar along with 15 kWh of batteries, over a 25‑year lifecycle.

-
Battery peak shaving
Solar and battery peak shaving can manage and reduce each home’s energy costs, at today’s rates.
-
Community facilities
Community buildings such as Native Care will have on-site sodium-ion energy storage.
-
Energy sovereignty
Long-term cost avoidance for the nation, in addition to energy sovereignty.

Delivery
Delivery partners
-
Tribal energy development
A Native American–led energy development partner with tribal development experience.
-
Solar installation
A licensed, bonded and insured solar EPC partner with a general contractor licence.
Environment
Stewards of the environment
Zero emissions. Fire-resistant chemistry. Fully recyclable materials.
-
Protect the tribal land
Red Lake Nation is advancing energy sovereignty while honouring its responsibility to the land. With safe, modern sodium battery technology, the tribe can have reliable power without environmental risk, helping preserve soil, water and sacred landscapes for future generations.
-
No leaks, spills or explosions
Traditional generators burn fuel, which brings many risks: diesel fuel storage spills, and natural gas leaks or explosions. Sodium-ion battery containers supply electricity with no combustion: emission‑free power without fuel tanks, gas lines or exhaust.
-
Non-combustible chemistry
Sodium-ion batteries use stable materials that are far less prone to thermal runaway than lithium-ion systems. The chemistry runs at lower internal stress and makes less heat, for a dramatic reduction in battery fire risk on tribal lands.
-
100% end‑of‑life recyclability
Less than 5% of today’s lithium batteries are recycled. Our sodium-based energy storage systems are built for full material recovery, with components that are 100% recyclable at end of life.
